CFCU Community Credit Union opened its doors in 1953 and has roots deep in the Finger Lakes Region of New York State. Back then, we were known as Cornell Federal Credit Union, and served the employees of Cornell University. In 1997, we adopted a state charter and became Cornell FingerLakes Credit Union. Then in 2003, we converted to a community charter for Tompkins and Cortland counties and officially became CFCU Community Credit Union. This means anyone who lives, works, attends school or maintains a business in these two counties is eligible to become a member.
With ten locations, more than 60,000 members and over $900 million in assets, CFCU is one of the largest credit unions in New York State. Our ongoing success can be traced to a number of factors including sound management practices, adherence to a strict code of ethics, excellent rates and great products, year after year. But what truly sets us apart from other financial institutions is our ability to deliver highly personalized, quality service. CFCU Community Credit Union is truly "More than banking."

CFCU's Vision Statement: Transforming generations and communities. Simply. Personally.
What is a Vision Statement?
A Vision Statement is an inspiring, clear, and concise statement that reveals the character, beliefs, and core of an organization. It contains the aspirations of internal stakeholders and the hope of those who use the organization towards its purpose. Our Vision Statement is an enduring message that reflects the will of our employees, volunteers, and members.
What does it mean?
“Transforming” – one definition of transforming is changing in form or character. We want to change people’s lives for the better.
“Generations” indicates the ability to serve members at various stages of their life, and the ability for families of our current members to join the Credit Union.
"and" - small but important word that indicates inclusion.
“Communities” can be looked at very locally – for example, the “community of Cortland”; more broadly: “the Finger Lakes community”; or globally: “the New York State community,” or the “community of credit unions.” We will have an impact wherever our members and employees experience community.
“Simply” - Banking and personal finance are complicated. Caring is not. We strive to know our members on a more personal level, giving us the ability to provide them with relevant, easy-to-understand information that cuts through the clutter.
“Personally” - at our core is a passion to help members. If we can positively impact members as individuals, which impacts their families and communities, then we have accomplished our goal.
